Was an interesting how I greeted 2015. Arrived to Phuket airport at 9.30 pm, and shared a cab from the airport to Patong with an Aussie girl and dude that I met on the plane. Guess what, the journey took more than 2 hours because of 1) New year's eve traffic and 2) our taxi driver was quite the klutz. He must have made at least 10 stops along the way to ask for directions. 15 minutes before the clock striked 12, he only managed to find the guy's hotel. Tracy and I ended up on a motorbike with this thai dude who said he knew the directions. Then there came fireworks, right above us. Tracy turned to me and said "well, happy new year". I have never experienced fireworks like this, away from the hustle and bustle (everyone else was on the beach). Almost felt like these fireworks were meant just for me, haha. Being on a motorbike with fireworks emerging from all directions - It was so dynamic. Tracy wasnt too happy at all, she was late for the party. But I loved the experience, it felt like a special NYE exclusive fireworks tour.We must have spent at least 20-30 minutes on the bike because... This guy didn't know his way too.
Reached my hostel an hour past midnight, and headed to Patong Beach after. There were hoards of people, the party scene was woohooo. Very boozy westerners, saw a few people almost getting into fights and etc. Bangla Road was so crowded I could barely move. Didn't spend too long a time at the beach. Got unwanted attention being alone as a girl, and had to lie several times that my "friends are at the pub". Got back to the hostel at about 3 am, realised that I was the only girl in the dorm. Another roommate came back super boozed and started shouting "MEXICO, MEXICO!!" at 5.30am. Nice dudes tho. This was how I said hello to 2015.
Had a looooong route to Koh Lanta because of the hiccups along the way (3 people directing me to different places). It took me a day! but I am so glad I came, like it so much that I am happy to spend my honeymoon here too. It's a little gem, the place and the people :) glad that the culture here is not eroded by tourism.
Was out diving today, the waters were so choppy that the boat ride felt like a rollercoaster ride. Thankful that I don't get seasickness.
It's back to Phuket tomorrow, hoping to do a couple of dives from Phuket. Keeping fingers crossed for calm waters!
